Hi my grandfather sgt Walter Cochrane was stationed at Longhope from Aug 1940 to Sept 1941 with 119 Road Construction Co Royal Engineers. 30th May 1940 this company was evacuated from Dunkirk and next stop was Longhope. I have the full war diary’s of 119 Road Construction Company RE gives daily accounts of what this unit faced and the work that was taken placed. 10th Aug 1940 15:40 arrived at Longhope company under canvas, 13th Aug commenced building of nissan huts and so on, gives good account of the work that this company executed and the problems they overcame. After Longhope they were in North Africa , Italy. I have the war Diary’s of this unit transcribed. Email me if you would like a copy
